Job Description
**Job Title** Senior Research Engineer – Additive Manufacturing **Role Summary** Lead medium‑to‑large scale technical projects in metal additive manufacturing (Laser Powder Bed Fusion), drive technology strategy, and mentor a team of 6–8 engineers. Act as a technical liaison with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders, ensuring deliverables meet TRL ≥ 3 requirements and project milestones. **Expectations** - Deliver high‑quality technical outputs within budget, time, and customer specifications. - Maintain an evolving portfolio of research projects, advancing AM technology readiness. - Coach, develop, and manage the professional growth of the AM engineering team. - Foster customer relationships, support bid development, and expand the AM portfolio. - Activate cross‑disciplinary collaboration and leverage industry networks. **Key Responsibilities** 1. **Technical Leadership** – Own project lifecycle: proposal, planning, execution, delivery, and post‑delivery review. 2. **Research & Development** – Conduct cutting‑edge studies on process/machinery readiness (TRL ≥ 3), material qualification, and quality optimisation. 3. **Team Management** – Provide day‑to‑day guidance, create development objectives, and conduct performance discussions. 4. **Stakeholder Engagement** – Liaise with industrial clients, academic partners, and internal groups; drive proposal and bid creation. 5. **Strategic Contribution** – Advise on capital investment, technology strategy, and future defence‑sector opportunities. **Required Skills** - Deep technical expertise in Metal Laser Powder Bed Fusion and associated process chain. - Proven track record leading medium‑to‑large engineering projects. - Leadership/management of small engineering teams. - Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder‑management skills. - Familiarity with AM qualification tools, material testing, surface finishing, and in‑process monitoring. **Desirable Skills** - Experience with other additive manufacturing technologies (metals, polymers, ceramics). - Metallurgical knowledge pertinent to AM processes. - Data‑driven optimisation using large datasets and machine‑learning techniques. - Chartership or equivalent professional engineering status. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or related field. - Professional engineering qualification or chartership (e.g., IMechE, ASME, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
