Job Description
**Job Title** Functional Analyst / Analyst Programmer (COBOL) **Role Summary** Analyze business requirements and translate them into functional specifications for legacy COBOL‑based back‑end applications. Design, test, and support core administrative systems while collaborating with business and technical teams in a hybrid (2 days on‑site) environment. **Expectations** - Deliver accurate functional designs that align with business needs and system constraints. - Ensure data integrity and solution quality through SQL‑based validation and functional testing. - Support development teams with clear functional guidance and impact assessments. - Manage multiple projects simultaneously using Agile or Waterfall methodologies. - Communicate effectively with stakeholders, developers, architects, and infrastructure teams. **Key Responsibilities** - Gather and analyse business requirements; produce detailed functional specifications. - Design end‑to‑end functional solutions (user flows, business logic, data structures, system interactions). - Review and interpret existing COBOL code to assess behavior and impact of changes. - Write and execute SQL queries for data validation, investigative testing, and functional testing. - Prepare functional test cases, conduct integration testing, and certify solution quality. - Support developers during coding, ensuring functional consistency and adherence to specifications. - Participate in project planning, status reporting, and coordination with project managers and stakeholders. **Required Skills** - Strong functional analysis experience, preferably in large‑scale administrative or transactional systems. - Ability to read, understand, and analyse COBOL code in legacy mainframe environments. - Proficient in SQL for data extraction, validation, and testing. - Knowledge of integration flows, batch processing, and legacy system architecture. - Analytical/problem‑solving mindset; pragmatic, solution‑oriented. - Excellent communication skills; able to bridge business and IT. - Highly organized, autonomous, and able to meet deadlines in complex settings. - Good English; French and/or Dutch a plus. **Required Education & Certifications** - Master’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field **or** - Bachelor’s degree plus ≥5 years of functional/technical analysis experience.
