Job Description
Job Title: Digital IC Backend Physical Design Engineer Role Summary: Design and optimize high-speed AI ASICs for next-generation AI applications using advanced semiconductor technologies. Focus on backend physical design from netlist to GDSII, ensuring power, performance, and area targets. Expactations: All career levels; expertise in sub-7nm FinFET nodes and advanced physical design flows. Key Responsibilities: - Execute synthesis, floorplanning, placement, clock-tree synthesis, routing, and optimization. - Develop physical design strategies including partitioning, hierarchical floorplans, pin placement, and power grid design. - Implement timing constraints (SDC), perform static timing analysis (STA), and achieve timing closure across process/voltage variations. - Collaborate with RTL, synthesis, verification, and DFT teams to resolve functional/timing issues and implement ECOs. - Conduct physical verification (DRC, LVS, IR-drop, electromigration) and automate P&R flows using Cadence/ Synopsys/ Mentor tools and scripting (e.g., TCL, Python). Required Skills: - Digital IC design, RTL coding, and backend physical design expertise. - Proficiency in EDA tools (Innovus, ICC2, Calibre) and scripting (TCL, Perl, Python). - Deep understanding of place-and-route flows, timing closure, power optimization, and FinFET technology challenges. - Knowledge of low-power design (UPF/CPF) and physical verification. - Strong problem-solving and collaboration in cross-disciplinary teams. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. - Experience in AI chip design preferred.

Expectations: Produce robust RTL, optimize performance‑power‑area trade‑offs, support system integration, and meet design milestones while maintaining rigorous documentation and quality standards. Key Responsibilities - Design microarchitectures for AI processing engines, memory hierarchies, and interconnects. - Write RTL in SystemVerilog/Verilog, perform synthesis, simulation, and formal verification. - Conduct power, performance, and timing analysis; model trade‑offs and optimize accelerator efficiency. - Create detailed design documentation, specifications, and testbenches. - Collaborate with architects, verification, and software teams on feature definition and design trade‑offs. - Support backend integration, timing closure, and physical design considerations. - Participate in system‑level architecture exploration and accelerator optimization.
