Job Description
**Job Title:** Payroll and Benefits Administrator (Full‑Time Temporary) **Role Summary:** Responsible for end‑to‑end payroll processing and benefits administration for a public transit workforce. Ensures accurate, timely payroll, manages wage assignments, handles employee inquiries, and prepares payroll reporting while maintaining compliance with payroll legislation and union agreements. **Expectations:** - Process the complete payroll cycle within statutory deadlines. - Maintain payroll accuracy and internal controls. - Provide high‑quality service to employees, departments, and external agencies. - Manage wage assignment court orders and union contract administration. - Compile payroll reports and document processes for audit and continuous improvement. **Key Responsibilities:** - Verify payroll transactions, earnings, deductions, and remittances. - Process wage assignment court orders; update payroll system accordingly. - Respond to employee queries on pay, vacation, pension, and benefits. - Prepare and distribute payroll reports to management and stakeholders. - Maintain payroll records, audit trails, and data integrity. - Document payroll procedures and assist in system updates. - Ensure compliance with Employment Insurance, CPP, and other payroll legislation. - Collaborate with HR, finance, and external agencies to resolve payroll issues. **Required Skills:** - Proficient in computer‑based payroll systems, preferably with union version knowledge. - Strong analytical and detail‑oriented mindset. - Excellent communication and customer‑service skills. - Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines. - Knowledge of payroll legislation (E.I., CPP) and union contract administration. - Capable of preparing detailed reports and documentation. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Current enrollment or completion of the Canadian Payroll Association’s Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) requirement. - Relevant diplomas or degrees in accounting, business administration, or related fields preferred. - Valid criminal record check or vulnerable sector search required.
