About the Company

The Maritime & Coastguard Agency implements the government's maritime safety policy in the UK and works to prevent the loss of life on the coast and at sea.

We provide a 24-hour maritime search and rescue service around the UK coast and in the international search and rescue region through HM Coastguard. We also inspect and survey ships to ensure that they are meeting UK and international safety rules, provide certification to seafarers, register vessels and respond to pollution from shipping and offshore installations.

Job Description
**Job Title** Assistant Director Economic Analysis **Role Summary** Lead and oversee the economic analysis function within a maritime regulatory agency. Provide strategic direction, quality assurance, and high‑performance leadership to deliver robust analytical support for decision‑making across the organization and government policy levels. **Expectations** - Strategic leadership of the analytical function in alignment with agency and government strategies. - Assurance of analytical quality to senior management and accountability bodies. - Development of a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and high performance across the team. - Influence and challenge senior stakeholders to inform policy and operational decisions. **Key Responsibilities** - Develop and manage the agency’s analytical strategy, ensuring alignment with strategic plans and national analysis frameworks. - Deliver assurance and reporting to the Accounting Officer and senior analysis overseers. - Lead, mentor and grow the economic analysis team, fostering high‑performance and professional development. - Oversee the production of economic analyses, ensuring methodological rigor and relevance to policy and operational needs. - Build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders, including policy leads and external partners, to embed best analytical practices. - Champion good analytical practice in line with Treasury guidance and internal standards. - Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance analytical outputs and team effectiveness. **Required Skills** - Advanced knowledge of macro‑economics and micro‑economics with experience at senior analyst level. - Proven leadership and team management abilities, including coaching and performance management. - Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing, and communication skills. - Expertise in rigorous quantitative and qualitative economic analysis, modelling, and data interpretation. - Familiarity with government analytical frameworks and Treasury guidance. - Demonstrated commitment to integrity, honesty and inclusive leadership. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, or related discipline (equivalent). - Master’s degree or PhD in Economics or a closely related field highly desirable. - Professional certifications such as Chartered Economist, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or equivalent are preferred.
