**Job Title**
Service Manager – Emergency and Acute Medicine
**Role Summary**
Lead the day‑to‑day operational management of the Emergency Department and acute wards, ensuring service delivery meets agreed quality, safety, and financial standards. Drive continuous improvement, support strategic planning, and collaborate with multidisciplinary leaders to optimise patient care and resource utilisation.
**Expectations**
- Work as a core member of the operational team, contributing to tactical decision‑making.
- Champion patient safety, quality improvement, and operational excellence.
- Act as an ambassador for the organisation’s values, providing inspirational leadership.
- Maintain financial controls, meet performance targets, and support the business plan.
- Foster a culture of collaboration across clinical, managerial, and external stakeholders.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Manage all aspects of operational delivery within the Emergency and Acute sub‑division.
- Develop, implement and review service improvement plans in partnership with Clinical Leads, Matron, and other services.
- Ensure financial controls, budgeting, and cost‑effectiveness align with the service’s resource and income base.
- Monitor and report on quality, safety, contractual, financial, and people metrics.
- Support the triumvirate leadership team in daily operational oversight.
- Lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams, driving performance and professional development.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to secure resources, partnerships, and best‑practice sharing.
- Promote and uphold the highest standards of behaviour, compassion, and ethical practice.
**Required Skills**
- Strong leadership and team management in an acute or emergency care setting.
- Operational and financial management expertise, with ability to utilise data for decision‑making.
- Proven experience in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical service delivery.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable with stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to thrive under pressure, manage change, and deliver results in a fast‑paced environment.
- Knowledge of NHS governance, regulations, and healthcare standards.
- Proficiency in performance monitoring, reporting tools, and management information systems.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Health Administration, Nursing, Medicine, or related field; equivalent professional experience accepted.
- NHS clinical registration or related clinical qualification is preferred for clinical context.
- Managerial or quality‑improvement certifications (e.g., Chartered Manager, Lean/Six Sigma) are advantageous.
