Job title: Accountant (Maternity Cover)
Role Summary: Provide senior accounting oversight for multiple UK‑based shipping group entities, ensuring compliance, accurate financial reporting, and effective intragroup recharges during a one‑year contract.
Expactations: Deliver high‑quality financial information, support strategic decisions, maintain strong stakeholder relationships, and drive process efficiencies throughout the assignment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee financial operations for all group companies, ensuring adherence to accounting standards and internal policies.
- Serve as primary finance liaison for managing directors, executive team, and external stakeholders.
- Manage intragroup recharges and ensure timely, accurate inter‑entity transactions.
- Review ledgers, journals, and accounting documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Supervise assistant accountant on invoice, payment, and receipt processing.
- Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, payroll/pension providers, regulators, and authorities for compliance and filings.
- Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting to inform strategy and identify improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate on cross‑functional initiatives, such as expansion, investment, and risk management.
- Identify and implement process, control, and efficiency enhancements within the accounting function.
Required Skills:
- ACA or ACCA qualified.
- Minimum 7 years of accounting experience, preferably within the shipping industry.
- Strong knowledge of UK shipping regulations, reporting, and tax.
- Excellent analytical, detail‑oriented, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills across all levels.
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel.
- Strong organizational, time‑management, and prioritization skills.
- Proactive mindset for process improvement.
Required Education & Certifications:
- ACA or ACCA certification.
