Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and qualified Accountant to join our Shipping Group in London, as Maternity Cover. As an Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of several UK-based companies within our group, including a team of investments and risk experts in the shipping industry and a shipping company that attracts tonnage tax. You will work closely with operations teams, managing directors of business units, and the executive team, including the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Your role will also involve managing intragroup recharges and ensuring accurate financial information for our shipping group.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the financial operations of the UK-based companies within our shipping group, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and internal policies.
Act as the primary point of contact for managing directors, the executive team, and other stakeholders, providing financial insights, analysis, and reports.
Manage intragroup recharges and ensure accurate and timely financial transactions between the entities within our shipping group.
Review financial records ensuring they are accurate and up-to-date, including ledgers, journals, and other accounting documents.
Review the assistant accountant’s processing of invoices, payments, and receipts promptly and accurately.
Liaise with external accountants and auditors, payroll and pension service providers, regulatory bodies, and authorities to ensure compliance with regulations and the timely submission of mandatory filings.
Perform financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting to support strategic decision-making and identify areas for improvement.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insight and support on various initiatives, including business expansion, investments, and risk management.
Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes, strengthen internal controls, and enhance operational efficiency within the accounting function.
Qualifications:
ACA or ACCA qualification is required.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in the accounting industry or practice, with a preference for candidates with a background in the shipping industry.
Familiarity with regulations, reporting requirements, and tax implications specific to the shipping industry in the UK.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues at all levels and build strong working relationships.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy, identify trends, and provide valuable financial insights.
Proactive and forward-thinking mindset with the ability to propose and implement process improvements to optimize financial operations.
Proficient in using accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
