**Job Title:**
Year in Industry Placement – Nonclinical Safety
**Role Summary:**
Assist the Nonclinical Safety Team in engineering mammalian cell models to evaluate bispecific molecules. Apply genetic engineering and molecular biology techniques to create, validate, and use engineered cell lines for pharmacological testing of novel immuno‑engagers. Gain hands‑on training in advanced cellular assays, data analysis, and laboratory documentation within a structured industry placement program.
**Expactations:**
- Complete a full‑time year‑long placement focused on nonclinical safety and cell model development.
- Demonstrate ability to design and construct genetic tools, generate engineered cell lines, validate perturbations, and perform cell‑based pharmacology assays.
- Contribute to internal reports and presentations, maintaining meticulous lab records.
- Comply with biosafety, quality, and documentation standards throughout the program.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Design and clone synthetic nucleic acid constructs (sgRNAs, plasmids) for gene modulation.
- Generate, propagate, and maintain plasmid stocks and engineered mammalian cell lines.
- Validate genetic edits at DNA, RNA, and protein levels using PCR/qPCR, western blot, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, and next‑generation sequencing.
- Conduct cell‑based assays (co‑culture, T‑cell activation, killing, cytokine release) to assess bispecific molecule effects.
- Perform fluorescence‑activated cell sorting to isolate specific cell populations.
- Analyze experimental data, prepare summary reports, and present findings.
- Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks, protocols, and records per industry standards.
- Execute routine laboratory maintenance and uphold safety and biosafety guidelines.
**Required Skills:**
- Proficiency in mammalian cell culture, plasmid work, and genetic manipulation techniques.
- Experience with qPCR, western blot, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, and basic sequencing analysis.
- Ability to design oligonucleotides (sgRNAs, primers) and clone plasmids.
- Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and report generation.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety, biosafety, and quality documentation.
- Excellent written and oral communication, teamwork, and time‑management.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Current enrolment in a BSc (or equivalent) in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Immunology, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, or related discipline (second year).
- No specific certifications required; coursework in genetics, cell biology, or molecular biology preferred.
