Analyst - Market Studies (Freelance/Consultant)

Our client, a key player in the Belgian and European energy landscape, is looking for a freelance Analyst - Market Studies to join their Scenarios, Market & Adequacy Analysis (SMA) team.
Context
Our client ensures the reliability and sustainability of the electricity supply in Belgium and Europe. They're building a greener, smarter grid to support the energy transition -- and you can help them shape the system of tomorrow.
Your Mission
Support client's core market modeling and energy adequacy studies -- including security of supply analyses, cost-benefit assessments, and economic dispatch simulations. You will:
Develop and improve (flow-based) market modeling frameworks
Analyse and validate critical grid data (e.g., PTDF, RAM, CNEC)
Build and refine scripts (R/Python/VBA/Excel) to automate model building
Contribute to dispatch studies and energy scenario analysis
Help improve code quality and team tooling (e.g., Git, CI/CD)
What We're Looking For
You're a proactive "data & energy geek" with a passion for smart infrastructure and market dynamics. You combine analytical rigor with a hands-on mindset.
Must-haves
Strong skills in R or Python (preferably both)
Proficiency in Excel
3-5 years of relevant experience
Interest in the energy market and energy transition
Strong communication skills - fluent in English and Dutch or French
Team player with an independent, quality-driven mindset
Nice-to-haves
Experience with VBA, Tableau, PowerBI
Familiarity with ANTARES or other dispatch modeling tools
Experience handling large datasets (10+ GB)
Git/version control, RStudio or VSCode know-how
