This role is all about turning architectural vision into robust, high-performance data systems. You'll work closely with Data Architects and client teams to develop, optimise, and maintain platforms that handle sensitive, high-value information.
At SPG, we design and deliver enterprise-grade data platforms that directly support essential public services, including the NHS and emergency operations. One of the main goals is to build data solutions that power mission-critical services. Our projects demand precision, scalability, and security, and we need a Data Engineer with strong Azure expertise to make it happen.
What You'll Do
Develop and maintain end-to-end data pipelines using Microsoft Azure, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, and OneLake.
Implement semantic models and datasets in Power BI, optimising for performance and usability.
Ingest, transform, and integrate data from multiple systems into secure, centralised storage layers.
Apply ETL/ELT best practices for efficiency, resilience, and scalability.
Collaborate with Data Architects to translate conceptual designs into production-ready solutions.
Implement data governance, security, and compliance measures (e.g., GDPR, NHS IG).
Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise pipelines and query performance.
Maintain high-quality documentation for data flows, transformations, and dependencies.
Support the rollout of data cataloguing, lineage, and quality monitoring tools.
What We're Looking For
3-5+ years in Data Engineering or similar hands-on data delivery roles.
Strong experience building modern data solutions using: Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Data Lake Storage and Power BI (dataset creation, semantic modelling, DAX optimisation)
Solid understanding of data modelling (conceptual, logical, and physical).
Experience with performance tuning and query optimisation in Azure environments.
Familiarity with data governance, privacy, and compliance frameworks.
Comfortable working with large, complex datasets in enterprise or public sector contexts.
Strong communication skills for working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Added Bonus
Experience in healthcare or emergency services data environments (e.g., CMS, Adastra, CAD, HR datasets).
Exposure to data cataloguing and metadata management tools.
Microsoft certifications in Azure Data Engineering or Power BI.
Why Join SPG?
