Schedule: Hybrid (4 days onsite, 1 remote - typically Thursday or Friday)

Brooksource is seeking a Software Engineer III to join the Virtual Communication Technology (VCT) - Design & Engineering team at one of the nation's leading telecommunications companies. This team is responsible for building and maintaining the Unified Customer Communications (UCC) platform, which delivers over 700 million communications monthly (email, SMS, push notifications) to 31+ million customers.
As a Software Engineer III, you will contribute to the design, development, and support of scalable, high-performance middleware applications that power enterprise-wide marketing and customer operations initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, develop, and maintain Java-based applications using Spring Boot, Spring Batch, and J2EE
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement scalable and performant solutions
Work with SQL databases and contribute to data modeling and integration
Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes
Support containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native development (AWS exposure is a plus)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of experience in:
Java/J2EE development
Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring Batch)
SQL databases (MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle)
Strong understanding of software development methodologies and testing frameworks (JUnit, TestNG)
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with:
Gradle, IntelliJ, Eclipse, DBeaver, SQL Workbench
Docker, Kubernetes, Helm Charts
AWS (nice to have)
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native app development
Exposure to large-scale communication platforms or VCT environments
Practical experience with JPA, messaging systems, and REST clients is highly valued

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Comfortable working under general direction with the ability to break down tasks and meet deadlines
Excellent communication skills and ability to present technical work to peers and leadership
Demonstrated ownership and initiative on past projects is a plus
