Software Engineer II

Location: Chicago, IL (Onsite 4x/week, some schedule flexibility)

Certification: ANACI required (ANACI requires candidates to provide contact info for past managers, landlords, and personal references from the last 7 years for verification via calls or emails)

Top 3 Hard Skills:

Java (with Spring Framework) -- upgrading legacy apps to Java 22/23, containerization with Liberty
SQL -- high-level querying for JVM data access (not DBA)
AWS Services & Terraform (IaC) -- EC2, Lambda, ECS, RDS, S3, with some Terraform experience

Role Overview:

Join a team migrating complex monolithic Java Spring applications from on-prem to AWS cloud with minimal downtime. You'll work on containerizing apps, upgrading Java versions, developing CI/CD pipelines, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver scalable, secure cloud-native solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain complex Java applications in AWS environments
Upgrade and containerize apps using Liberty containers and CI/CD tools (GitLab, Jenkins)
Manage AWS EC2 instances and deploy Java apps to Lambda where applicable
Design, build, and optimize SQL data queries supporting JVM applications
Write and maintain infrastructure as code with Terraform (support role)
Implement automated tests and CI/CD pipelines to ensure quality and stability
Lead software upgrades, patching, and system migrations
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure security, scalability, and operational excellence
Participate in peer code reviews and knowledge sharing
