Job Title: Lead Android & API Architect
Location: Hybrid - Deerfield, IL or Chicago, IL (3 days onsite)
Duration & Type: 3-Month Contract (Intent to Convert to FTE dependent upon performance)

Summary
Chamberlain Advisors is seeking a Lead Android & API Architect to serve as the technical lead across Android application development and backend API architecture. This role will drive the design and delivery of our mobile-first platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance across enterprise-grade systems. A key focus will be enabling Zebra barcode scanning solutions, architecting secure Spring Boot APIs, and integrating mobile applications with enterprise systems such as SAP, Apigee, and Azure. This is a high-impact role, providing leadership in Android OS upgrade cycles, MDM-based rollouts, and performance monitoring with tools like Dynatrace, Kibana, and Adobe Analytics. What You Will Be Accountable For
Architect and implement scalable solutions across Android apps and Spring Boot APIs.
Design resilient Android systems with barcode scanning, offline capabilities, and Zebra device optimization.
Lead development of RESTful Spring Boot services integrated with SAP, Apigee, and Azure cloud environments.
Own the push notification architecture, ensuring high reliability across multiple apps and use cases.
Oversee Android OS upgrade cycles and coordinate enterprise-wide MDM deployments.
Lead technical investigations using Dynatrace, Kibana, and Adobe Analytics telemetry.
Review API and Android codebases for performance, architecture, and adherence to best practices.
Partner with infrastructure teams to align mobile API strategy with Azure load balancing and Apigee gateway policies.
Produce detailed documentation including system diagrams, sequence flows, and integration specifications.
Mentor developers across mobile and backend domains, instilling best practices and architectural standards.
Influence mobile CI/CD pipeline strategies and enterprise mobile security standards.
What Qualifications You Need
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of senior-level Android and backend API development experience.
Expert in Android (Kotlin, Java), Jetpack, custom views, and memory management.
Strong knowledge of mobile architectures (MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture).
Deep experience in Spring Boot API development including security, versioning, and performance tuning.
Advanced knowledge of push notification systems (FCM, backoff strategies, queues).
Proven experience leading Android OS upgrade cycles in enterprise/MDM-controlled environments.
Proficiency in SQLite and schema versioning with syncing patterns.
High proficiency with Dynatrace, Kibana, and Adobe Analytics.
Experience with Ping Identity, Apigee proxy design, and Azure App Gateway.
Integration experience with SAP (OData, BAPI, RFC).
Strong ability to document technical systems (UML, sequence diagrams, architecture flows).
Demonstrated expertise with Zebra devices, barcode libraries, and rugged device optimization.
Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to lead teams and influence stakeholders.
Certifications in Android, Spring, Azure, or enterprise architecture. (Preferred)
Experience with enterprise security frameworks for mobile/backend systems. (Preferred)
Experience contributing to open-source libraries or backend frameworks. (Preferred)
Familiarity with hybrid cloud (AWS/GCP) or Kubernetes. (Preferred)
