Job Specifications

Specialty Building Products is currently looking for an Azure Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our VALUES based organization. The ideal candidate will lead the design, implementation, and management of our Azure cloud environment. This role bridges traditional infrastructure (networking, hybrid identity, storage, disaster recovery) with modern cloud engineering practices (Terraform, automation, scaling, governance).

The Azure Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will partner closely with System Administration, Security, and Application Development teams to deliver secure, scalable, and cost-efficient Azure environments. The role will also ensure seamless hybrid cloud operations, governance compliance, and effective support for application development initiatives.

Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure & Engineering

Design, deploy, and maintain Azure infrastructure resources (VNets, VPNs, ExpressRoute, firewalls, load balancers, storage, compute).
Integrate and manage hybrid environments (on-prem AD/Entra ID, AAD Connect, hybrid connectivity).
Engineer high-availability, disaster recovery, and backup solutions.
Ensure scalability, reliability, and performance optimization across infrastructure and applications.

Automation & Governance

Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform (preferred) or Bicep/ARM.
Define and enforce governance standards: RBAC, policies, tagging, subscription/resource structures.
Automate provisioning for Dev, QA, UAT, and Prod environments.
Implement and maintain cost governance, rightsizing, and automated cost controls (FinOps).

Microservices & Application Support

Create and configure Azure resources for microservices (AKS, Container Instances, Service Fabric).
Support application development teams by evaluating requirements, selecting appropriate Azure services, and provisioning resources.
Develop and maintain technical documentation in internal knowledge bases.

Access Management & Security

Manage Azure Active Directory and RBAC policies.
Implement IAM protocols and monitor access across Azure resources.
Ensure compliance with security standards and organizational policies.

Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing

Partner with System Administration, Security, and Application Development to align infrastructure and compliance standards.
Share knowledge and mentor team members on Azure best practices.
Coordinate with consulting vendors and manage stakeholder communications.

Monitoring & Reporting

Implement observability solutions (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Sentinel, Defender for Cloud).
Monitor utilization, performance, and costs, providing regular reporting to leadership.
Generate cost optimization recommendations and maintain Azure budgets/alerts.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of experience in Azure cloud infrastructure roles.
Hands-on expertise with Terraform and scripting (PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Bash).
Strong knowledge of Azure networking (VNets, VPNs, routing, ExpressRoute, firewalls).
Experience with hybrid identity and directory services (AD, Entra ID, AAD Connect).
Proficiency with Azure governance (RBAC, policies, tagging, cost management).
Understanding of scaling strategies (autoscaling, load balancing, serverless patterns).

Preferred Certifications

Exposure to Fabric, Synapse, or Azure data platform services.
Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, AKS) and microservices design.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
Certifications: AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-500, AZ-400, Terraform Associate.
Experience working with consulting vendors or managing enterprise-scale deployments.
