Backend-Focused Software Engineer (AI + Developer Tools)

The Role
As a Backend-Focused Software Engineer, you'll play a critical role in designing and building the core systems that power our intelligent AI teammate. You'll work across infrastructure, architecture, data pipelines, and large language model (LLM) integrations to deliver production-ready features that directly impact thousands of developers daily.
You'll collaborate closely with a small, high-performing team to shape the foundation of our platform -- from service design and deployment to infrastructure and performance optimization.
What You'll Do
Ship high-impact backend features requiring new services, infrastructure changes, and agent architecture enhancements.
Design and open-source frameworks for enabling 3rd-party integrations.
Create unified reputation systems to assess user trustworthiness across multiple integrations.
Build data pipelines to generate evaluation datasets from production traffic.
Propose, prototype, and champion a durable workflow execution framework.
Optimize ingestion and indexing pipelines to reduce cost and time to first index.
Review teammates' PRs and contribute to a strong culture of engineering excellence.
Participate in on-call rotations to help triage and resolve customer incidents.
What We're Looking For
4+ years of experience as a full-time software engineer.
Proven experience designing, implementing, and maintaining production-grade services.
Experience as a tech lead or mentor in an engineering team.
Proficiency in Python, Go, or TypeScript.
Strong understanding of SQL and database schema modeling.
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Pulumi.
Hands-on experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure.
Based in the Bay Area or willing to relocate to San Francisco.
