Mainframe Developer - Contract Opportunity

Location: Central London (Hybrid)

Contract Length: 6 months initially

Day Rate: Up to PS425 per day (Inside IR35)

Start Date: ASAP

Join an experienced, high-performing team working on mission-critical enterprise systems. This is an exciting opportunity for a Mainframe Developer to design, develop and maintain high-performance applications that support major business processes for a leading organisation in Central London.

The Role

You'll work closely with technical teams and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality mainframe solutions. You'll be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining core systems using COBOL, CICS Web Services and related mainframe technologies, supporting both development and implementation projects.

You'll also:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable product and development goals
Support business success through implementing strategic and tactical solutions
Contribute to continuous improvement, code quality and modernisation initiatives

Essential Skills & Experience

Proven experience as a Mainframe Developer or in a similar role
Strong programming knowledge: COBOL, JCL, SQL and CICS Web Services
Experience with IBM mainframe systems, ZOS Connect EE, and DB2 REST
Development experience using FileAid, Xpeditor, IBM Explorer for ZOS, Visual Studio
Proficient with SOAP, WSDL, and JSON with a solid understanding of SOA and RESTful APIs
Familiarity with GitLab, Endevor, JIRA, and Confluence
Understanding of authentication and security patterns (MATLS, OAuth/JWT)
Experience with DevOps and Agile methodologies, including CICD and Jenkins
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Desirable Skills

Java (version 8+) experience, including OOP and functional programming
Familiarity with Spring Boot and REST API development
Hands-on experience with DataPower appliances
Knowledge of XSLT, Gateway Script, and XPath
