Context :
We are currently looking for a Power Asset Optimizer in Brussels to strengthen the Short-term Optimization (STO) team in our business platform Power Trading & Commercial (PT&C) in Brussels.
The mission of the optimizer will be a mix of operational activities and project-related work. The operational activities entail contributing to a 7/7 shift rotation on a timetable between 9h00 and 17h00 every day of the year (including weekends and public holidays).
Role :
As Power Asset Optimizer, your role will be to:
Take part in the daily asset optimization activity (7/7 shifts for 75% percent of your time), which includes:
Carrying out daily optimization runs for the portfolio of assets in the Engie portfolio (nuclear, gas-fired, CHP, biomass and pump storage assets) and devising bidding strategies in the day-ahead energy markets of Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands (BEDENL) that maximize revenue and ensure physical balance.
Costing and bidding of capacity contracts on any asset eligible for the ancillary services (FCR, aFRR and mFRR) tendered daily by national Transmission System Operators (TSOs), arbitrating against all other market opportunities.
Ensuring a transparent logging of all transactions in the deal capture systems as well as a thorough understanding of the P&L of every asset and a comprehensive reporting of the optimization activity.
Contribute to projects on the following areas (for 25% of your time):
Simplification and digitalization (automation) of the activities of the desk, including the development of algorithmic bidding solutions for all assets.
Devising day-ahead – intraday optimization strategies that arbitrate opportunities across all short-term markets available to our clients.
Contributing to making the optimization workflows more agile and adaptable to an evolving commercial landscape as well as to market design changes that are the norm across short-term energy markets.
Qualifications :
Master’s degree in engineering or any other quantitative discipline (economics, computer science, finance, etc.).
Willingness to take part in a rotating, on-duty shift system (7/7) requiring work over week-ends and public holidays (with the appropriate compensation).
