Associate, Portfolio Analytics (6-month contract)
Location: Hybrid, Toronto - University Ave
Empire Life is looking to hire an Associate, Portfolio Analytics to join our Investments team!
The Portfolio Analytics Associate is responsible for executing performance, risk, positioning and competitive analysis of Empire Life investment portfolios. In addition to portfolio analytics, the Portfolio Analyst participates in initiatives that build and maintain the awareness and understanding of Empire Life’s investment philosophy, approach, style and mandates by providing support to key stakeholders in support of Retail Investment Product and Marketing. The incumbent is guided by generally defined expectations and works under the broad supervision of the Head of Investment Research.

What you’ll be working on
Conduct in-depth analysis of equity, fixed income and multi-asset portfolios including (but not limited to) performance attribution, risk assessment and positioning trends.
Deliver portfolio analytics reporting for the use Portfolio Managers and other senior investment professionals, including the CIO
Assist in the development of tools and process enhancements to help expand the existing portfolio analysis and reporting capabilities.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with members of the investment team and participate in investment team meetings to maintain an expert level of knowledge regarding Empire Life funds and capital markets.
Develop and provide competitor investment analysis, provide insights into asset flows and provide proactive recommendations on relative positioning and fund strategies.
Leverage investment expertise to build and manage content, including (but not limited to) presentations and regular portfolio commentaries, for Portfolio Managers and the CIO.
Support Product and Marketing teams with fund / market related content / insights for strategic campaigns and tactical communications.
Proactively represent the investment team by researching and delivering fund and market updates to internal marketing and product teams.
Provide analytical support into new product development and other strategic initiatives
Respond to investment-related enquiries from internal and external sources in a timely manner.
What we’re looking for you to have
Completion of a University Degree in a quantitative field
Completion of CSC and IFIC courses
CFA or MBA is considered an asset
3+ years of progressive experience in financial services industry
1+ years experience in an Investment Product Management, Portfolio Analytics or Risk Management role in the investment management industry.
Understanding of capital markets, portfolio management concepts and the competitive fund landscape
Experience working with Portfolio Managers and other senior investment professionals.
Very strong knowledge of MS Office including MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, MS Word and other spreadsheet, database and presentation software
Knowledge of industry tools such as Morningstar Direct, Reuters, Bloomberg is an asset
Knowledge of quantitative finance and Knowledge of programming including MS Excel Macros, VBA, Python is an asset
Highly analytical with understanding of statistical concepts, quantitative methods and ability to interpret data
Ability to translate data and analysis into written reports and presentations to key stakeholders
Strong relationship building, communication and presentation skills
Strong ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve desired results
Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks or projects
