Role Summary

Regular software updates are at the core of RV Tech’s identity as a company that supports and improves its products long after the first sale, as well as core to how we develop and iterate within Rivan engineering. Our OTA Cloud team is therefore also at the core of this identity by developing and maintaining the full stack infrastructure required to enable hundreds of thousands of updates every day consistently and reliably. As a Senior Backend Engineer on the OTA Cloud team, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and scaling the backend systems that power our over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities. You will work on complex challenges related to distributed systems, high availability, and performance optimization, with a strong emphasis on leveraging AWS architecture.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable, and efficient backend systems for OTA updates.
Architect and implement solutions using AWS services, including but not limited to
EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, and RDS.
Optimize system performance and ensure high availability, scalability, and security.
Develop and maintain RESTful APIs, GQL endpoints and microservices.
Implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software.
Write clean, well-documented, and testable code.
Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues.
Contribute to the improvement of software development processes and best practices.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of experience in backend software development.
Strong proficiency in at least one of the following backend programming languages: Java, Python or Go.
Extensive experience with AWS services and architecture, including hands-on experience with designing and deploying applications on AWS.
Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and RESTful API design.
Experience with database systems, both relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., DynamoDB, MongoDB).
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience with monitoring tools such as Datadog.
Strong understanding of software development principles, design patterns, and best practices.
Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Developer).
Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform,
CloudFormation).
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Experience with performance testing and optimization.
Familiarity with OTA update systems or embedded systems.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for California Based Applicants: $146,900 - $183,600 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Vancouver and Toronto Based Applicants: 108,200 CAD - 135,300 CAD (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Full Time Employee coverage is effective on the first day of employment. Part-Time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
