Job Specifications
We’re looking for an experienced architect to take ownership of the complete ground and operations segment for a cutting-edge in-orbit servicing mission. This role spans architecture, development, integration, and validation; covering mission control, telemetry and command, data handling, autonomy interfaces, and operational execution throughout all mission phases.
What You’ll Do
1. Architecture & System Design
Define requirements for ground and operations systems, including MCC, TT&C, data flows, automation, security, and availability.
Design mission control services, ground network architecture, and hybrid cloud/on-premise interfaces.
Establish protocols and standards (CCSDS, ECSS/NASA), and deliver ICDs, CONOPS, and operational workflows.
2. Analysis & Modelling
Model command and data flows end-to-end, including RF link budgets and performance metrics.
Simulate operational scenarios across all mission phases (LEOP, commissioning, docking, disposal).
Perform trade-off studies on processing strategies, redundancy, command/control architectures, and tooling.
3. Development of Hardware & Software
Specify ground segment components (MCS, FDS, automation tools, telemetry databases, archiving systems).
Drive decisions on build vs. buy vs. partner for ground stations, networks, and mission services.
Implement modern DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, containerization, monitoring, configuration control).
4. Testing & Validation
Define and execute verification and validation plans for the ground segment (SVTs, end-to-end tests with simulators/HIL).
Lead mission rehearsals, anomaly simulations, and readiness reviews (TRR, ORR, MRR).
Validate operational products such as procedures, rules, timelines, displays, and data integrity checks.
5. Operations Planning & Execution
Develop operational concepts, staffing plans, and contingency strategies with autonomy integration.
Set up MCC operations, command flows, and critical event execution (LEOP, proximity operations).
Coordinate with ground stations and networks for continuous operations and incident response.
6. Stakeholder Engagement & Compliance
Collaborate with spacecraft subsystems, autonomy/GNC teams, software developers, ground providers, and assurance teams.
Ensure compliance with CCSDS, ECSS/NASA standards, cybersecurity requirements, and export-control regulations.
Own architecture documentation, ICDs, CONOPS, operational products, validation reports, and manage scope, risks, and delivery.
