As our International Catastrophe Modeller Lead, you will be Responsible for leading the catastrophe modelling work within the International region. This role requires an understanding of property and casualty re/insurance and knowledge of one of the two main vendors, AIR or RMS. The role focuses on supporting our International Property MGA portfolio and non-property direct classes such as Marine and Energy, written out of the UK and Stockholm. Responsibilities will include development and delivery of the cat modelling process including data validation, catastrophe modelling, and portfolio management. This role requires constant communication with internal and external partners across underwriting, pricing, actuarial, and exposure management to ensure we are properly reflecting our natural catastrophe risk. You will report to the Global Head of Nat Cat Risk and Analytics.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
Build out the International cat modelling process including developing & owning the exposure data preparation process from receipt of data from underwriters/partners through input into Catastrophe Model. This includes liaising with 3rd party data service providers and directing what assumptions should be made for each book of business.
Run Catastrophe Models and ensure that the output is reasonable. Validate Catastrophe Modelling output using statistical techniques and industry + cedant data.
Evaluate deal pricing and portfolio fit using Catastrophe modelling output including attending client and broker meetings to explain and justify the SiriusPoint view of risk.
Present and discuss results with underwriters, actuaries, and our business partners on a regular basis to ensure alignment and data quality.
Work closely with the Head of Nat Cat Pricing and Analytics to produce the quarterly portfolio roll-up.
Produce reports for internal, regulatory, and rating agency stakeholders. Produce visuals using Power BI/Tableau/Other tools that will be communicated with senior management. Present findings to senior management.
Work closely with exposure management to monitor our aggregate exposures to key perils.
Conduct research into Catastrophe Models to improve the Company’s view of risk. Communicate with brokers and industry experts to determine adjustments necessary. Present findings at internal working groups and forums.
Required
Your skills and abilities should include:
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Math, Sciences, Economics, Engineering, etc.)
5-10 years (or more) of experience working with Catastrophe Models (AIR/RMS) with a focus on UK + Europe Property exposure.
Experience with modelling and validating the results of Marine, Energy, and other Non-Property Exposures.
Sufficient pricing/actuarial understanding to digest, discuss and justify modelled loss ratios, including comparing to historical results.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates must be able to communicate technical concepts to people with less technical backgrounds
Experience of building and improving catastrophe modelling processes.
Advanced Microsoft Excel including VBA.
Programming knowledge including SQL and a scripting language such as Python.
Preferred
Experience in designing and executing a roll-up process for a portfolio consisting of many contracts within different lines of business.
Experience using programming skillset to enhance portfolio roll-up efficiency and insights
Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and/or Power BI
