The Role

At TIDAL, a global music streaming platform owned by Block, we are committed to empowering artists and delivering unparalleled music experiences to fans. We are looking for an Android Engineer who thrives in product development and is passionate about making a real difference in the music industry. You’ll join our mobile team, a highly collaborative group of Android and iOS engineers, working closely with product, design, and backend teams in cross-functional sprints.

You Will
Propose, define, and lead large, high-impact technical initiatives that affect multiple teams across TIDAL and Block
Drive the architectural evolution of our Android system, ensuring scalability, performance, and long-term success
Collaborate with iOS engineers and backend developers to deliver innovative solutions that provides real value for music fans and empowers artists
Define ways to accelerate yourself, others, and the organization through the use of AI technologies
Participate in design and product discussions, shaping the future of TIDAL’s mobile experience
Mentor and elevate teammates through thoughtful feedback, technical guidance, and pair programming
Represent TIDAL in broader technical discussions with senior engineers and leaders across Block
You Have
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience, plus ~12 years of relevant industry experience
Deep understanding of Android development with a track record of organizational impact
Experience successfully leading and delivering large-scale technical initiatives across multiple teams
Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools in your workflow
A commitment to continuous improvement for yourself, your team, and our codebase
Proven ability to influence technical direction across organizational boundaries.
Demonstrated excellence in technical communication and relationship-building across disciplines
Experience mentoring and growing other engineers
Passion for music and creating tools that support artists and fans
Technologies We Use and Teach
Kotlin for Android, Swift and Objective-C for iOS (we collaborate closely across platforms)
Modern Android frameworks and libraries (Jetpack, Coroutines, etc.)
Comprehensive testing strategies: unit tests, snapshot tests, and integration tests
AI-powered developer tools like Goose, Cursor, and Claude Code to accelerate development and innovation
Others: CI/CD pipelines, feature flagging, and modern development practices

 Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. Canada locations are categorized into one of two zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: : $222,900 CAD - $334,300 CAD

Zone B: : $222,900 CAD - $334,300 CAD
