Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Who we are: Corporate Finance is a division of Finance, committed to maximizing the value of financial planning with a fixed control on long term financial strategic viewpoints and execution for the Region of Peel.

There are six service groups within Corporate Finance: Financial Policy and Development Finance, Accounting Services, Loss Management and Insurance Services, Financial Systems Development Support, Peel Housing Corporation Finance and Treasury Services.

What You Will Do In This Role

Reporting to the Supervisor, Financial Policy and Development Finance, you will provide detailed financial analytical and reporting support to the Region’s development charges (DCs) program.

This role will support in the collection of DCs and fees, while liaising with local area municipalities and providing client services to the development community. This position will assist in preparing ad-hoc and scheduled DC reports to assist in management decision-making, as well as periodic accounting duties including journal entries, reconciliations, and data consolidation.

Collect DCs and fees including those channeled through local area municipalities
Review development applications and agreements for financial impact on the Region including providing support to the policy development of growth management policies
Assist in the preparation of deliverables for updating the DC By-law and DC background study
Assist in the annual budget review by conducting variance analysis against the DC Background Study and review reports with development charges funding implications
Regularly complete reporting and accounting duties including journal entries, reconciliations, and data consolidation
Respond to inquiries and requests for compliance letters
Participate in the review and upgrades of existing processes and system functionalities
Provide analytical and reporting support to SFAs and supervisor, participate in special projects and other duties as assigned
Assist in conducting research on matters and events that may have implications on the Region’s DC program
Manage detailed historical DC Payment data including interest payments and deferral agreements

What The Role Requires

A university degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or related discipline
A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in a financial environment
Proven sound understanding and experience with financial forecasting models and with cleaning and analyzing data

Skills/Abilities

Excellent analytical, research, decision making and problem-solving skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to develop and maintain strong, productive working relationships with Regional management and staff, as well with other municipalities and external agencies
Ability to make presentations to diverse audiences
Proven superior computer skills particularly in developing and updating financial models using Excel and sound knowledge of multiple computer applications and business intelligence tools including PeopleSoft, Salesforce, Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Nice To Have

A professional financial or accounting designation (e.g. CFA, CPA, ACCA), MBA or a master’s degree in finance or economics
Knowledge of the Development Charges Act, 1997
