Summary

The Staff Electro-Acoustic Engineer is critical for the research & development, prototyping and testing involved in creating the very best acoustic experience of Eargo products. He / she will develop the acoustic requirements to optimize Eargo’s hearing instruments as well as be responsible for testing and characterizing hearing aid signal processing algorithms, micro transducers and hearing aid system along with verification and validation ensuring delighting audio performance to our users.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Help in characterizing, evaluating & tuning of hearing aid and signal processing algorithms such as Feedback canceller, Noise reduction, Dynamic range compression, EQ etc.
Conduct both objective & subjective hearing aid acoustic tests using various industry standards and/or using inhouse developed acoustical tools.
Transducer selection, characterization & integration into acoustic systems.
Prepare clear and concise technical documentation, reports, and research papers on acoustics.
Define new design & test methodologies along with Verification & Validation of acoustic/audio performance of hearing aid system.
Develop and automate acoustical tests & tools for both R&D applications as well as for use in manufacturing testing & mass production.
Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team on Product designs, Signal processing algorithm development & Clinical testing from product inception to mass production.
Support continuation engineering of hearing aid systems in the field as well as perform electroacoustic failure analysis on devices.
Manage, set up, operate, and calibrate acoustic test setups using acoustic chambers, B&K and GRAS audio test equipment, and Listen Inc. SoundCheck systems.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
3+ years of hands-on experience in audio hardware development
Proficiency and Experience in industry-standard audio hardware & software: DAWs, Adobe Audition, SoundCheck, amplifiers, measurement microphones, HATS, ear simulators, sound calibrators, sound level meters
Strong programming skills in Python, Matlab, or other relevant languages
Knowledge in audiology/psychoacoustics, especially speech-processing
Experience working on acoustic architecture and audio subsystems
Experience with medical electronics and/or high-volume consumer electronics
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Self-motivated and able to work in fast-paced team environment
Capable of managing abstract concepts and translating them into functional products
