Job Specifications
Our client is undergoing a major multi-year data modernization initiative, transitioning from long-standing legacy systems into a modern Azure + Microsoft Fabric ecosystem. This role will support multiple projects within a larger modernization program, focusing on data ingestion, pipeline development, transformation, and platform enablement.
The Azure Data Engineer will take end-to-end ownership of data pipelines, ensure technical standards are followed across teams, and provide hands-on engineering support for analytics, Fabric, and AI-driven workloads. This is a long-term, high-impact contract role with substantial visibility across IT and external partners.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Azure Databricks.
Develop ingestion and transformation processes supporting analytics, reporting, and AI workloads.
Implement and manage data models, schemas, and governance using Unity Catalog.
Utilize Terraform to deploy and manage cloud infrastructure in Azure.
Use GitHub for source control, branching, and workflow management.
Support modernization efforts from legacy databases to Azure services.
Ensure consistency, standards, governance, and best practices across all project teams.
Troubleshoot pipeline issues, monitor workload performance, and resolve technical tickets.
Collaborate closely with internal engineering teams, data science stakeholders, and external partners/vendors.
Requirements
Strong hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory and Azure Databricks (PySpark).
Proficiency with Unity Catalog, SQL, and modern data lake/lakehouse architectures.
Terraform expertise (required; major area of need).
Strong experience with GitHub for version control and DevOps workflows.
Demonstrated ability in data ingestion, transformation, and pipeline engineering.
Understanding of Azure cloud services, data storage solutions, and integration patterns.
Experience working in modernization or cloud-migration environments.
Nice to have: Exposure to AI/ML workloads, Fabric optimization, or data science–adjacent engineering.
