At MHB, we believe in investing in the future of engineering. That’s why we are seeking Undergraduate Civil Engineers to join us for the summer of 2026. This program will give five (TBC) student engineers a strong head starts in their careers, offering firsthand experience with real technical and design challenges, as well as the opportunity to develop valuable commercial skills early in their professional journey.

Industrial / Summer Placement

Job Purpose

During your placement with MHB, you will work alongside experienced engineers on and off-site to develop skills and work independently on the design and analysis of engineering projects.

You will be involved in the technical aspects of engineering projects, supporting the preparation of designs, calculations, and reports.

This role will provide the opportunity for involvement and skill development in managing projects both in terms of timescale and budget.

Roles & Responsibilities

Assist in the development of designs, calculations, and reports.
Support the preparation of technical drawings and specifications.
Attend site visits and surveys (under supervision) as required
Learn to apply relevant design codes and standards (e.g., British Standards, Eurocodes).
Engage in training and professional development activities.
Work to project timelines, budgets, and communication with Project Managers

Person Specification

Education

Enrolled on a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ICE or IStructE accredited course

Demonstrate a commitment to undertake continuous professional development

Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English).

Ability to work effectively with the Microsoft suite of programs, such as Word, Excel & PowerPoint

Understanding of relevant technical analysis, design software and AutoCAD

Strong attention to detail and the ability to comply with Quality Assurance Management Systems.

Experience

Typically, 2 years undergraduate

Additional Responsibilities

A full clean driving license would be an advantage

Familiar with Autodesk (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and Bentley (MicroStation) software.

Due to the nature of this role, site work, overnight or weekend work may be required.
