Head of Financial Risk – London (Full-Time)

About the Organisation

Our client is a global specialty insurance business with a strong ambition to become a leading provider within its sector. Its strategy is built on high-quality products, industry expertise and a collaborative culture that encourages people to be present, bold and curious.

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Head of Financial Risk to join its London office on a full-time basis. The role reports into the Head of Enterprise Risk Management and works closely with the Head of Non-Financial Risk.

The successful candidate will drive best-practice approaches to identifying, assessing and managing financial risks across the organisation—including insurance, credit, capital, market, climate and liquidity risks. The position also leads the independent validation of the Solvency II Internal Model and ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the implementation and embedding of the organisation’s financial risk framework, ensuring alignment with enterprise risk management principles, strategic objectives and regulatory expectations.
Ensure all financial risk exposures and associated controls across the business are effectively monitored, assessed and reported to support decision-making, identification of emerging risks and compliance obligations.
Provide timely and robust risk challenge and advisory input to the business, including on strategic developments, new products and change initiatives.
Support the development and embedding of risk appetite metrics, emerging risk assessments and scenario analysis activities.
Foster strong working relationships across business units and build subject-matter expertise where required.
Deliver reporting on the aggregate financial risk profile, including material exposures, control effectiveness and risk-appetite positioning.
Support the production of ORSA reporting.
Review and challenge the internal capital model and related validation work, including risk quantification and aggregation methodologies.
Participate in relevant governance and committee forums, presenting insights on financial risks and controls as required.
Deputise for the Head of ERM in interactions with regulators and other external stakeholders on risk-related matters.

Knowledge & Skills

Strong capital modelling and/or internal model validation experience.
Extensive experience within the non-life / general insurance industry, ideally with exposure to the Lloyd’s or London Market.
Excellent report writing skills and experience producing materials for senior management, committees or boards.
Ability to challenge and engage with stakeholders at all levels, presenting balanced and well-reasoned risk opinions and recommendations.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of Solvency II and familiarity with related regulatory frameworks.
Quantitative degree.
Ideally a qualified actuary (FIA or equivalent), though this is not essential.

Candidates whose experience does not align perfectly with all criteria are still encouraged to apply.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Our client is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment. They value the broad range of identities, backgrounds and perspectives that contribute to a resilient and innovative workforce. Candidates may request reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process.

Sustainability & Impact

The organisation is committed to responsible business practices and a forward-looking ESG approach, supporting community initiatives and providing colleagues with opportunities to contribute to positive environmental and social outcomes.
