As the Financial Accounts but known internally as our Finance Analyst here at Virgin Atlantic, you'll assist the Direct Operating Cost team with GL accounting, controls operation and audit. This will include financial accounting processes and reconciliations including but not limited to global operating and overhead costs and cargo-related deferred revenue and accrued costs. The role is responsible for delivering accurate, reliable, and timely books of account for the VAL Group and its subsidiaries as well as overseeing the operation of IFRS compliant accounting.
You will be accountable for ensuring that processes you are responsible for are performed without issue each month end and for ensuring revenue recognition is accurate, and that accruals, reconciliations, and any necessary releases (including review of invoices) are performed on a timely basis.
DAY TO DAY
As our Finance Analyst (Financial Accounts), you will be responsible for the following activities:
The complete transfer of accounting transactions data into Oracle from underlying systems in your areas of accountability
Ensure that all DOCs are captured and are complete, reflecting all flights/movements in the period
Accurate posting of all journals, (could include but not limited to):
Accruals, Prepayments, Calculation of cargo override and commission charges, Payroll and Provisions
Deliver timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliation schedules to meet all statutory, regulatory, shareholder and management reporting requirements
Monitor and highlight instances of under/over provisioning in a timely manner
Support the maintenance/integrity of mapping table within underlying systems and feed into Oracle
Play an active role in the ongoing development of a best-in-class finance function, with particular focus on accruals, prepayments, and overhead processes
Reviewing and challenging the calculations and output from systems ensuring that the result is challenged for completeness and accounting accuracy as well as being consistent with your knowledge of the operational environment
Close promptly at month end, in accordance with internal timetables and ensure that all expenses are correctly recorded
Be the primary point of contact for queries (including audit queries) on the posting of actual results, with the ability to discuss and push back when required
Work with Accounts Payable to ensure that invoices received can be reconciled back to the accruals made
Supporting the Finance Manager with a successful close out of the external interim and full year audit.
ABOUT YOU
Are you a strong communicator, with experience in a finance related role?
In addition to the above, we are looking for our successful candidate to demonstrate the following:
Minimum part qualified in CIMA/ACCA/ACA
Strong MS Office, and in particular Excel
Strong system skills would be an advantage, particularly Oracle Financials
Inquisitive with the ability to challenge and improve processes
Proven capability to prioritise work
Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
Ability to communicate with senior levels of management, being able to explain complex processes in a succinct way
Problem solving skills within an overall business context
Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to distil complex processes into clear simple messages
High level of analytical skills and financially astute
