Data Modeler

We are looking for a proactive analyst with strong data-modelling skills to support SMA – Scenarios, Market & Adequacy Analysis team in delivering the Flexibility Needs Assessment (FNA) and other simulation-based studies. You will work with hourly economic-dispatch results to understand how Belgium’s electricity system will behave in the next 5–10 years as renewable energy grows.

What you will do

Analyze economic-dispatch outputs (e.g., ANTARES) to assess RES curtailment, residual load, and system behavior.
Perform ramping analysis to determine how well technologies can follow fast increases or decreases in net load.
Support short-term flexibility assessments for unexpected changes in demand, outages, or RES fluctuations.
Calculate and visualize key indicators (hourly/daily/seasonal statistics) in line with EMDR/FNA requirements.
Improve and maintain analysis tools in Python/R/Excel and prepare clean datasets for the SMA team.
Contribute to data preparation, consistency checks, and drafting sections of the FNA and related studies.
Ensure alignment with the Adequacy & Flexibility Study and Summer Outlooks.

Requirements:

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in modeling, data analysis, or energy systems.
Strong skills in Python or R (must) and Excel (must); VBA is a plus.
Experience with economic dispatch tools, ideally ANTARES, is a strong asset.
Good understanding or strong interest in electricity markets and the energy transition.
Fluent in English and Dutch or French.

Location: Brussels

Onsite presence: 2 days of physical presence on site / week by default is required
