Senior Engineering Opportunities (Head of Web & Senior Backend Engineer)
Location: Belfast (Hybrid: 1 day per week in office)
Stage: Series A MedTech startup with £12m funding secured
Team: High-calibre engineering team of 5, doubling this year
Neulinx are supporting a Series A MedTech startup who are building AI-powered tools used by clinicians globally. With significant new investment and rapid product adoption, the team is now scaling their engineering organisation.
We’re hiring for two senior roles:
• Head of Web (Senior Software Engineer)
• Senior Backend Engineer
Both positions offer real ownership, modern tech, and the chance to influence how the next generation of clinical decision-support tools are built.
About the Company
The organisation is transforming how medical knowledge is accessed in real time. Their platform is already used across the NHS, Ireland and leading US health systems, with tens of thousands of clinicians relying on it daily. The team blends engineering, AI and clinical expertise to build products that genuinely improve patient care.
1. Head of Web (Senior Software Engineer)
This role owns the entire web platform, shaping the frontend architecture, raising engineering standards and delivering high-quality, scalable features.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Lead development using React and TypeScript
• Own architecture, performance and long-term technical direction
• Improve maintainability, identify tech debt and guide refactoring
• Collaborate with backend and mobile teams to ensure platform consistency
• Implement strong engineering practices across testing, CI/CD and documentation
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to team culture
• Work closely with product and clinical teams to deliver meaningful features
What You’ll Bring
• Expert-level React + TypeScript experience
• Strong background building and maintaining production web applications
• A track record of leadership, ownership and architectural decision-making
• Solid understanding of design patterns, performance and scalability
2. Senior Backend Engineer
This role focuses on building and scaling cloud-native backend systems powering AI-driven clinical knowledge tools.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Design and build serverless backend systems on AWS
• Contribute to infrastructure-as-code and DevOps tooling
• Develop LLM-powered features, including RAG pipelines
• Build document extraction workflows for clinical PDFs and structured data
• Own performance, reliability and security across backend systems
• Collaborate with product and frontend teams to deliver key features
Tech Stack
• AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito, S3, OpenSearch)
• Node.js, TypeScript, Python
• DynamoDB, PostgreSQL
• Serverless architecture
• Terraform, Docker, CI/CD pipelines
What You’ll Bring
• 5+ years backend engineering experience
• Strong AWS skills and hands-on cloud build experience
• Exposure to LLM/AI workflows, embedding models or semantic search
• Startup mindset with a pragmatic, problem-solving approach
• Solid grounding in performance, security and scalable architecture
