Job Specifications

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a AVP of Data Centre Migration to work for our client within the finance sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in Birmingham.

Our client is seeking an experienced AVP of Data Centre Migration who will be responsible for overseeing and driving all operational activity during a major Data Centre Migration programme. You will coordinate end-to-end weekend execution, ensuring all readiness steps are complete, monitoring migration progress in real time, and acting as the central point of control throughout critical cutover periods.

You will play a pivotal role in managing communication across diverse technical and executive stakeholders, proactively synthesising updates, initiating incident bridges, and driving rapid, structured responses to issues. A key part of this role is maintaining absolute command of escalation paths, ensuring problems are triaged quickly and appropriately, and guiding teams toward timely resolution in high-pressure scenarios.

Responsibilities

Translate business objectives and risk strategies into secure, scalable architectural designs that align with public-sector requirements.
Evaluate services, applications, suppliers, and security tooling from a technical and security architecture perspective to ensure alignment with the enterprise security posture.
Analyse technical risks across platforms and convert them into clear enterprise-level risk language to support informed decision-making.
Develop cloud-native, secure-by-design solutions that adhere to organisational security frameworks and architectural principles.
Identify opportunities to safely adopt emerging technologies while balancing innovation with regulatory obligations and the organisation’s risk appetite.
Collaborate with engineering, architecture, and delivery teams to embed effective security controls throughout the solution lifecycle.
Provide expert security architecture guidance to stakeholders, advising on threats, mitigations, and best-practice frameworks.
Ensure all architectural decisions comply with relevant standards, policies, and governance requirements across both cloud and on-prem environments.

Requirements

7–10 years of experience in critical IT operations, incident management, or NOC/SOC leadership within large, complex enterprise environments.
Demonstrated ability to lead virtual teams and drive clear, timely decision-making under high-pressure, high-impact incident scenarios.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of influencing and engaging senior stakeholders (Directors, VPs).
Strong technical understanding of data center infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, virtualization, and cloud technologies.
Working knowledge of database infrastructure, with deeper expertise considered a significant advantage.
Hands-on proficiency with enterprise tooling, such as incident management platforms (e.g., ServiceNow), collaboration tools (MS Teams), monitoring systems, and project management software.
Ability to operate effectively in fast-moving, mission-critical environments, maintaining composure and clarity during escalations.
Willingness to work rotational weekend shifts to support 24x2 Command Center operations for the duration of the migration program.
