Overview

The Junior Security Operations Specialist is responsible for monitoring, managing, and improving the security posture of the organization. This role plays a critical part in identifying and responding to security threats, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and protecting the integrity of the organization’s systems and data. The junior specialist will work closely with other teams, including IT, compliance, and risk management, to mitigate potential risks and improve overall security.

 

Responsibilities

 

The Junior Security Operations Specialist's job responsibilities will include the following activities related to the daily operations and health of our customers but are not limited to the list below.  

 

The primary support responsibilities are:

Monitor Security Systems: Oversee the organization’s and clients' security infrastructure and monitoring tools. including security information and event management (SIEM) tools.
Threat Detection and Incident Response: Identify potential threats, analyze security alerts, and respond to security incidents. Implement quick resolutions and ensure proper documentation of incidents.
Vulnerability Management: Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and security audits. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure patches and security updates are applied in a timely manner.
Security Investigations: Lead forensic investigations following security breaches or suspicious activities. Provide detailed reports on findings and recommendations for improvement.
Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with relevant security regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001). Prepare and submit reports to stakeholders on the state of the organization's security.
Automation and Tool Management: Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks using security automation tools to streamline processes.
Security Awareness: Work with internal teams to promote security best practices and conduct training to raise awareness of security risks.
Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest security trends, threats, and technologies. Propose new tools and strategies to improve the organization’s security operations.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

 

·  Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.

 

·  Preferably 2 years of experience in security operations, IT security, or a related field.

 

·  Certifications: Preferred certifications include CISSP, CISM, CEH, CompTIA Security+, or similar.

 

·  Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of security frameworks and tools (e.g., SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls). Experience with vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, and incident response.

 

·  Analytical Skills: Ability to assess complex security issues, prioritize tasks, and implement solutions efficiently.

 

·  Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

 

·  Problem Solving: Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset.

 

·  Attention to Detail: High attention to detail, particularly when analyzing security incidents or vulnerabilities.

 

· Bilingual – English and Spanish

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

·  Experience in cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.

 

·  Familiarity with scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.

 

·  Knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., PCI-DSS, NIST, SOC 2).
