Software Engineering Intern (OME)

We have multiple internship opportunities in Thales UK Optronics & Missile Electronics (OME) over summer 2026. This opportunity sit within Engineering, specifically the Embedded Software Engineering discipline.
The Embedded Software engineer designs and writes software for resource constrained microcontrollers and System On Chips, which interact with numerous hardware peripherals, as well as interacting with Firmware IP.
As an Embedded Software engineering intern, you will work closely with the Software team as well as the Hardware team in designing and implementing software components to run on processor boards which will ultimately be fitted within some of our products.

LOCATION

What We're Looking For
We are looking for undergraduates studying a Bachelor or Masters Degree (BEng, BSc, MEng, MSc) in Software Engineering who have knowledge of electronic design, who can write drivers to interact with hardware peripherals, as well as write application level code to realise the requirements of a system. Ideally, you will have an interest in electronics, cameras, motor servo control and possess the following skills:
Practical skills in C/C++
Practical Skills in debugging code
Practical Skills in use oscilloscopes
Knowledge on how to read schematics and datasheets
Good communication skills, written and oral
Focus is placed on the ability to:

Salary And Benefits
Compensation for this placement is pro rata £24000 per annum. You will also receive pro rata’d benefits in line with Thales employees.
