Net Talent Partners is supporting a leading educational organisation in Edinburgh, Scotland, in their search for a Contract Network Engineer with a specialised focus on Cisco infrastructure, Power BI reporting tools, and robust security measures. This organisation values technical expertise paired with strategic problem-solving, aiming to deliver resilient, secure, and high-performance network services across a large campus environment. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of Cisco networking, firewall management, and data visualisation, contributing to the organisation’s digital transformation and infrastructure excellence.

Design, implement, and maintain complex enterprise network infrastructure including Cisco routers (e.g., Cisco 8500 series), switches, firewalls (Cisco FTD with Firepower), and wireless networking solutions (Cisco Wireless 9800 LAN controllers and lightweight access points).
Manage and optimise network security through ACLs, port security, and access policies, and perform regular security scans and vulnerability assessments, including penetration testing.
Utilise Power BI to create and manage detailed reports on network performance, security metrics, and infrastructure health, enabling data-driven decision-making.
Support and administer core server and data centre infrastructure, such as fibre cabling, VMware virtualisation environments, and cloud integrations (Azure, AWS, M365).
Lead third-line support escalations, conduct root cause analysis, and contribute to major incident management with a focus on network stability and security.
Collaborate closely with internal teams and external vendors, providing expert guidance on network implementations, upgrades, and security enhancements.
Participate in planning and executing infrastructure projects, including disaster recovery, backup strategies, and capacity planning, ensuring compliance with best practices and organisational policies.
Mentor and support junior team members, develop documentation, and contribute to ongoing training and development initiatives.
CCNA certification essential; CCNP or equivalent advanced networking qualifications preferred.
Proven experience with Cisco enterprise networking, firewalls, and VPN services (e.g., Cisco AnyConnect).
Strong ability to develop, interpret, and visualise data using Power BI or similar tools to inform management decisions.
Experience in managing network security protocols, performing vulnerability assessments, and implementing compliance standards (GDPR awareness is a plus).
Familiarity with virtualisation platforms such as VMware vCenter, and cloud technologies including Microsoft 365, Azure, or AWS.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure and adapt to dynamic environments.
Effective communicator with a proactive approach to knowledge sharing and team collaboration.
