This is an exciting opportunity to be an instrumental player in large-scale project and deliver a solution with significant impacts to the community we serve in the State of Washington! The Department of Social and Health Services - Finance, Technology & Analytics Administration is seeking an experienced and dynamic Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join– Division of Information Technology (DIT) Quality Assurance team. The QA Team is responsible for validation and approval of coding changes for a large complex of eligibility systems that administer cash, food and medical assistance to the residents of Washington State. The Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) is involved in all phases of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), from requirement analysis and design definition, coding, testing and deployment. The ideal candidate will combine strong software development expertise with a passion for quality assurance and automation. As an SDET, you will make decisions on automation testing methods and tools. Your role will be critical in ensuring quality is embedded into every stage of product development. This project is anticipated to last until June 2027.
Some Of What You'll Do
Review business and design requirements
Design, develop and maintain test automation frameworks
Create and maintain automated test scripts
Integrate automated tests in CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing and rapid feedback
Run and monitor automated test scripts.
Track and report quality metrics, identifying opportunities to improve processes and product quality
Identify bugs found during testing and collaborate with other teams for resolution
Evaluate new software tools and technologies
Mentor team members on automation best practices and quality engineering principles.
Most work can be conducted by various options such as teleworking or on site. Normal working hours are Monday– Friday, 08:00 am to 05:00 pm. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Occasional work in excess of 40 hours per week is required to support critical problem resolution, production operations.

Bachelor's Degree closely aligned with Information Technology and seven years of IT experience such as consulting, analyzing, designing, programming, installing and/or maintaining computer software applications, consultative, administrative, or supervisory experience in working with test automation methodologies, building automation framework, experience testing relational database management systems, writing automation tests using JAVA, C#, JavaScript, Python, IT analysis, test automation, system maintenance, API testing or troubleshooting/problem resolution experience, or analyzing, designing, or programming computer systems applications or databases.
OR,
Eleven years of professional/practical IT experience such as consulting, analyzing, designing, programming, installing and/or maintaining computer software applications, consultative, administrative, or supervisory experience in working with test automation methodologies, building automation framework, experience testing relational database management systems, writing automation tests using JAVA, C#, JavaScript, Python, IT analysis, test automation, system maintenance, API testing or troubleshooting/problem resolution experience, or analyzing, designing, or programming computer systems applications or databases.
Preferred Qualifications, Experience, Or Certification
Test Automation Software Testing Certification.
Experience using Selenium.
Understanding of the Automated Client Eligibility System (ACES) and its associated applications.
