About The Role

The Cloud Developer role at BMO Financial Group is a vital position within the technology division, focusing on designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based solutions that support the bank’s digital transformation initiatives. This position involves working closely with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and high-performing cloud applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the entire lifecycle of cloud services, including configuration, deployment, and optimization, primarily on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), but also with experience in AWS or Azure. This role demands a deep understanding of cloud architecture, data pipelines, and software development best practices, ensuring that the bank’s cloud infrastructure aligns with security standards, compliance mandates, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess between 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in cloud development and support, backed by a post-secondary degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Extensive hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure is essential, with particular expertise in GCP components like BigQuery, App Engine, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Scheduler, and Vertex AI. A strong technical proficiency in building and supporting ETL pipelines, managing cloud resources, and optimizing performance is required. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong collaboration and team-oriented capabilities. Analytical problem-solving skills and a data-driven approach to decision-making are critical for success in this role. Certifications related to cloud architecture or development are a plus, as is experience in security best practices and compliance frameworks.

Responsibilities

Translate user needs into detailed technical specifications, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical feasibility.
Design, develop, test, and deploy new software applications and features within the cloud environment, adhering to the full software development lifecycle.
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and fault resolution to ensure system stability and performance.
Implement security standards, logging, error handling, and performance metrics to safeguard cloud applications and data.
Evaluate emerging technologies for integration into existing systems, assessing impacts on process, data integrity, and risk management.
Follow established release management procedures, including version control and documentation, to facilitate smooth deployment cycles.
Collaborate with stakeholders to interpret and document requirements, ensuring technical solutions meet business needs.
Coordinate vendor relationships, manage system upgrades, and oversee cloud resource provisioning and thresholds.
Support the development and implementation of cloud strategies, including cost optimization and scalability planning.
Provide technical consulting and support to internal teams, fostering best practices in cloud development and operations.
