Job Specifications

**Lead Full Stack Developer – Newcastle Upon Tyne (3 days per week onsite) - £75-90,000 per annum base + benefits**

We are looking for an experienced Lead Full Stack Developer to join a client based in Newcastle. The role will drive architectural decisions and ensure best practices in both front-end and back-end development, working closely with the Project Delivery Manager, key stakeholders, product managers and 3rd party providers.

Key responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

Design and oversee scalable, secure and high-performing system architectures
Lead full stack development efforts (front-end + back-end)
Set and enforce coding standards, architecture patterns, and development best practices
Conduct code reviews, mentor developers and provide technical guidance

Engineering & Software Delivery

Build end-to-end features across the entire stack
Lead the integration of APIs, databases, and third-party services
Lead the migration of business logic into new API microservices
Optimize application performance and ensure high availability
Collaborate with DevOps to improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies

Cross-functional Collaboration

Partner with product owner to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Work with UI/UX teams to implement responsive, user-friendly interfaces
Communicate project status, technical decisions and risks to the Delivery Manager and other key stakeholders
Liaise with legacy application experts to optimise data migration, ensure backward compatibility and plan the phased decommissioning of legacy systems.

Architecture Ownership & Modernisation

Own the end-to-end target architecture for the new 3-tier application (presentation, application/services, and data layers)
Define and document the architectural vision, principles, standards, and roadmap for the migration from the legacy VCL application
Establish clear separation of concerns between UI, API/service layer, and data persistence
Design service boundaries, domain models, and API contracts to ensure scalability and long-term maintainability
Evaluate and select appropriate frameworks, tooling, and cloud-native patterns aligned to the target architecture
Lead architectural governance, ensuring new development aligns with agreed patterns and avoids reintroducing legacy coupling

Skills and experience:

Full stack development experience, including the re-platforming and migration of legacy systems.
Strong front-end skills: JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js)
Expertise in back-end technologies such as Node.js, Python, Java, Ruby, or .NET
Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, and database design (SQL and NoSQL)
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Proficient with Git and modern CI/CD tools
Experience of using development management tools such as Jira, Confluence, GitLab
Expertise in using AI CASE tools to improve development productivity
