Job Title: Business Architect
Job Description
As a Business Architect, you will play a pivotal role within the central Architecture function, contributing to the shaping of strategy, business design, and customer journeys to deliver meaningful outcomes for our customers and members. You will translate strategic aims into actionable business architectures, ensuring a clear alignment between operating models, customer journeys, investment decisions, risk considerations, and transition states. This role involves close collaboration with Product Owners, Business Stakeholders, Engineering, and Solution Architects to ensure designs are traceable, coherent, and contribute to the long-term evolution of the business capabilities.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain business architecture artefacts including capability maps, journey frameworks, operating models, value stream models, and process architectures.
Shape strategic options and advise on the evolution of business capabilities across transition states.
Ensure architecture aligns with company strategy, customer outcomes, and target state designs.
Collaborate with Solution Architects to ensure business and technology designs remain connected.
Build and interpret financial models to support business cases and prioritisation decisions.
Provide analytical insight that shapes investment planning, benefits modelling, and value for money assessments.
Identify business risks and regulatory considerations impacting journey design, operating models, and organisational change.
Ensure business designs comply with regulatory expectations, internal governance, and risk guardrails.
Design end-to-end customer journeys aligned with strategic outcomes and business capabilities.
Map and optimise journey variations, pain points, and operational impacts.
Act as a trusted advisor to Product Owners, Value Stream Leads, and senior stakeholders.
Lead workshops, facilitate strategic dialogue, and articulate concepts using models and visual frameworks.Essential Skills
Experience in business architecture, strategic design, business analysis, or enterprise design.
Strong capability in financial modelling, investment analysis, and option evaluation.
Understanding of risk management, regulatory considerations, and business control frameworks.
Proven Experience designing customer journeys and journey frameworks.
Skilled in business architecture modelling (eg, BPMN, capability modelling, value streams).
Strong communication and facilitation skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in regulated industries such as financial services, insurance, pensions, or annuities.
Familiarity with enterprise modelling languages (eg, ArchiMate, BPMN, C4) and EA tooling (Ardoq, LeanIX, Orbus).
Exposure to value stream led delivery, Scaled Agile, and portfolio governance.
Understanding of digital, data, and technology concepts (not hands-on, but architecture aware).Why Work Here?

This role is based in Edinburgh, with the option to work in Manchester, operating on a hybrid model. You will be part of the Group Architecture - Central Architecture function, reporting to the Principal Architect and Head of Business Architecture.
