Location: London (Hybrid – 2 days per week - Liverpool Street / Old Street)

Salary: £120,000 - £140,000

This is an established AI software business operating at the intersection of machine learning, natural language processing and enterprise SaaS. The company has built a sophisticated AI platform that transforms unstructured data into structured, searchable and actionable intelligence.

With a global customer base and a strong product foundation already in place, the business is entering its next phase: scaling its technology organisation, maturing enterprise processes, strengthening security and compliance, and building the infrastructure required for long-term, sustainable growth.

The Role

The CTO will take full ownership of technology strategy, engineering execution and organisational scale. This is not a greenfield start-up role — the foundations exist — but the company now requires a leader who has built and scaled teams in start-up and scale-up environments and understands how to professionalise technology functions without slowing innovation.

You will lead engineering, platform, infrastructure and security, ensuring the business can scale securely, compliantly and efficiently as it deepens its enterprise footprint.

This role reports directly to the CEO and sits on the executive leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

Define and execute a scalable AI and platform technology strategy
Build, structure and scale high-performing engineering teams
Introduce clear leadership layers, performance frameworks and delivery accountability
Drive architectural decisions to support scale, resilience and enterprise reliability
Own cloud infrastructure, DevOps and platform performance
Lead security strategy, embedding ISO 27001, SOC 2 and GDPR best practice
Strengthen data governance, privacy controls and risk management frameworks
Support enterprise sales through technical credibility and security assurance
Establish measurable KPIs across engineering productivity, uptime and delivery

What We’re Looking For

Proven CTO, VP Engineering or senior technology leader in a start-up or scale-up SaaS environment
Demonstrated experience scaling engineering teams through high-growth phases
Strong AI/ML platform exposure (NLP experience advantageous but not required)
Deep experience building secure, cloud-native SaaS platforms
Hands-on knowledge of ISO 27001, SOC 2 and GDPR compliance frameworks
Experience building security-first cultures within engineering teams
Strong architectural judgement across distributed systems and data platforms
Commercially aware and comfortable operating at board level
