Job Specifications

Referment is working with a fast growing, modern legal practice that supports high growth and technology driven businesses across the UK and internationally. The firm combines the expertise of top tier private practice with the commercial mindset of an in house legal team, acting as embedded legal counsel to founders, scale ups, and venture backed companies.

They are now looking to hire a UK qualified Data Privacy Associate with strong UK and EU GDPR experience to join their commercial and technology team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a privacy lawyer who enjoys working closely with businesses and advising on practical, commercially focused solutions rather than purely theoretical compliance work.

The role sits at the intersection of privacy, technology, and fast moving commercial decision making. You will work directly with founders, product teams, and in house stakeholders across a range of scaling businesses.

The position can be fully remote within the UK.

The Role

You will advise a portfolio of technology enabled clients on a broad range of privacy and commercial matters, including:

Advising on UK and EU GDPR compliance and data protection strategy
Drafting and advising on privacy notices, data processing agreements and internal policies
Supporting clients with international data transfers and cross border data issues
Advising on DPIAs, DSARs, breach response and regulatory issues
Supporting businesses on privacy by design and operational compliance
Advising on commercial and technology agreements with embedded data protection considerations
Applying data protection principles to AI products, automation and emerging technologies

Lawyers in this team operate in a client facing capacity and build long term relationships with the businesses they advise, often acting as a trusted extension of the client’s internal legal function.

Candidate Profile

UK qualified lawyer with 4 or more years PQE
Strong experience advising on UK and EU GDPR and data protection matters
Training and experience within private practice
In house experience either through a permanent role or secondment is strongly preferred
Commercial mindset and ability to deliver pragmatic advice to fast moving businesses
Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with clients

Experience working with technology companies, scale ups, or high growth businesses will be advantageous. Exposure to AI related legal or regulatory issues would also be beneficial.

The Opportunity

Generous quarterly and annual bonus structure
Fully remote working option within the UK
Opportunity to work closely with innovative technology businesses across multiple sectors
Collaborative and supportive team environment

If you are a data privacy lawyer looking for a role that offers genuine client exposure, commercial impact and flexibility, please get in touch with Referment for a confidential discussion.
