The Opportunity

We are seeking to hire a Project Geologist who will help advance Exploration activities for First Mining, specifically at its Duparquet Projects. Reporting to, and working closely with, the Exploration management team, the Project Geologist will be instrumental in the Exploration Department that provides guidance and geoscience advancement for the company.

Job Description

As Project Geologist, your primary duties and responsibilities will be as follows:

Exploration Geoscience and Targeting Participation

Provide exploration support in the advancement of corporate gold assets within a diverse portfolio
Planning, ground truthing and execution of exploration field activities including logging and sampling of oriented diamond drilled core, scouting of drill pads and trails, regional and local-scale field mapping, geophysical ground truthing and geochemical sampling
Drill hole management including, preparing drillhole layouts, core logging, daily logging report, performing hole shutdown procedures, and evaluating the drill hole performance against the exploration program objectives
Perform drill site inspections and ensure drill sites are managed and maintained as per First Mining Gold procedure and safety standards and operating procedures
Support Site Supervisor with daily project reports, and site inductions when required
Safe field practices in remote areas and working around boats, UTV’s, snowmobiles and helicopters
Historical and current data collection & compilation focused on increasing integrity, standardization, resolution and completeness
Contribution in the development of regional and target scale geoscience 3D models supporting exploration
Provide input within an exploration team setting including review, development and updates in exploration policies and procedures
Pursue innovation and technologies for the unlocking of modernized techniques in analysis
Perform other related geological work as required; and such other duties and services that would be reasonably expected to be performed by a person employed by a public mineral exploration and development company in a similar position to that of the employee

Preferred Qualifications and Education

Self-starter, continuous learner, and a passion for innovation in geoscience related to mineral exploration
Work safely and contribute to safe practices of the First Mining Gold team
Willingness to travel and work as per program schedule requirements, and operate in remote work settings
A university degree in earth sciences with an eligibility for registration with the l’Ordre des géologues du Québec (OGQ) as a GIT/PGeo
Eligibility to work in Canada
Minimum 2-5 years of progressive experience
Posses a valid driver’s license
Prior experience working on District Scale Archean Greenstone hosted gold projects is considered an asset
Experience and knowledge of the following software is considered an asset: DH Logger, ESRI ArcGIS (Pro) and Leapfrog Geo
Experience with all terrain vehicles including, ATV, UTV, and snowmobiles considered an asset
Ability to move and or assist team members in handling core boxes
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural team
Oral and written communication skills (French and English) is an asset
