Head of Data Infrastructure | £130,000 - £150,000 + company bonus | Hybrid
Our client is seeking a highly disciplined, technically exceptional Head of Data Infrastructure & Operations to lead global data platform engineering and operations within a regulated financial services environment.
You will own the reliability, scalability, security, and operational excellence of a global data platform spanning messaging systems, databases, and multi-cloud infrastructure supporting global operations.
What You’ll Own
Enterprise Data Infrastructure
Lead architecture, deployment, and operations across GCP (primary), AWS, and Oracle
Own reliability, availability, scalability, and performance of all data platform services
Define infrastructure standards and ensure consistency across environments
Drive infrastructure-as-code, automation, and platform modernisation
Oversee capacity planning, cost optimisation, and technical debt reduction
DevOps & Operational Excellence
Establish best-in-class DevOps and CI/CD frameworks
Implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and observability
Define and manage SLAs/SLOs
Lead incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement
Build robust disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities
Champion Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles
Messaging & Database Platforms
Oversee high-throughput Kafka-based messaging infrastructure
Manage MongoDB and other database platforms (performance, optimisation, capacity)
Define backup, retention, and recovery strategies
Ensure database security and compliance with data protection standards
Cloud Infrastructure (GCP Focus)
Lead GCP operations across compute, storage, networking, and security
Manage IAM, RBAC, and governance frameworks
Drive cloud-native architecture adoption
Maintain multi-cloud capability across GCP and AWS
Leadership & Collaboration
Build and mentor high-performing infrastructure teams
Foster a culture of automation, rigour, and operational discipline
Partner with engineering, security, compliance, and risk teams
Embed governance and regulatory controls directly into infrastructure design
What We’re Looking For
Essential Experience
10+ years in infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or platform operations
Proven leadership of DevOps transformation at enterprise scale
Deep GCP expertise (AWS/Azure advantageous)
Strong production experience with Kafka or similar messaging platforms
Advanced database expertise (MongoDB and relational systems)
Infrastructure-as-code mastery (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation)
CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes
Monitoring & observability tooling (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)
Experience operating within regulated industries (financial services preferred)
Desirable
Google Cloud certifications
Experience with Airflow, Spark, or data warehouse technologies
Multi-region global infrastructure deployment experience
SRE background
Oracle database/cloud experience
Strong cloud networking and security expertise
