FINANCE ASSISTANT - FINANCIAL SERVICES

City Office

£45-50K

FTC - Mat Cover - You must be available to start in February - Maximum 1 weeks notice period.

We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Finance Assistant to join a dynamic financial brokerage and support all areas of financial reporting and operational finance. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a varied role within a small, collaborative finance team and enjoys taking ownership of key processes.

The successful candidate will bring strong financial acumen, excellent organisational skills, and essential experience using NetSuite. You will be confident managing your own workload, supporting colleagues across the business, and anticipating financial issues before they arise.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and deliver weekly financial reports
Assist with quarterly VAT returns
Support balance sheet reconciliations (including leases and fixed assets)
Manage month‑end close processes for sub‑ledgers
Take ownership of the sales ledger, including billing and maintenance
Support the management of project financial information aligned with budgets and plans
Monitor spend against budget and prepare key journals (accruals, prepayments, deferred/accrued income)
Act as the main point of contact for client and project invoicing
Manage debtor balances and credit control tasks
Maintain and update the contract database
Improve and develop financial KPIs
Work closely with Account Managers to ensure accurate accounting of fees and recharged expenses
Provide support on ad hoc finance projects
Carry out sense‑checks on financial data and identify areas of concern
Ensure compliance with internal finance and audit procedures
Provide cover for Accounts Payable when required
Assist with the annual audit process

Key Requirements

Proven experience in a similar finance role within Financial Services
Essential: Hands‑on experience using NetSuite
Intermediate MS Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas)
Strong numeracy and analytical skills
Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
Fast learner with a flexible, proactive approach
Experience working within a small finance team is highly desirable
