Versant Health: Making Healthy Vision a Reality for Everyone

Scope And Purpose Of Position

The intern will build and refine a fully automated CI/CD pipeline using GitHub Repositories and GitHub Actions for a small .NET/Angular sample application.

Over the 8 weeks, they’ll implement automated build workflows, integrate CodeQL security scanning, and configure environment‑based deployments to a cloud or on‑prem environment. They’ll also document the pipeline architecture, create reusable workflow templates, and demonstrate how changes flow from pull request to production.

By the end of the internship, the intern will deliver a working pipeline, documentation, and a short demo showcasing the automated development lifecycle.

Essential Functions

Setting up automated, repeatable build pipelines
using GitHub Actions (or similar) to compile applications and produce deployable artifacts and packages (ZIP, NuGet, or other formats).
Leveraging AI to analyze existing legacy code and build scripts
identifying blockers (hardcoded paths, dependencies, outdated tooling)
making small refactors or configuration changes to support automated builds.
Integrating builds with a deployment tool such as Octopus Deploy
publishing packages
triggering releases
documenting how deployments flow through environments.
Documenting all tools, processes, and decisions
Ensures future developers can build on the work completed.
Collaborating with senior engineering staff such as:
Principal/Lead Software Engineers
DevOps or Build Automation Engineers
QA/Testing team members involved in environment readiness or legacy system validation
Presenting a final demo of the automated pipelines, challenges encountered, and recommendations for next steps.

Educational Requirements

Must be currently enrolled in an Undergraduate degree program
Preferred field of study: Software Engineering
Required school classifications: Current Juniors and Seniors only
Required GPA: 3.0 and above

Experience

Basic experience with compiled programming languages such as C#, Java, or C++
Prior coursework is sufficient; professional experience not required
Familiarity with Git-based source control (GitHub, Bitbucket, or similar) branching, committing, pull requests
Interest in learning CI/CD concepts such as build pipelines, automated testing, and artifact packaging
Handson experience is a plus but not required
Some exposure to scripting (Bash or PowerShell preferred)
General understanding of how applications run file systems, configuration files, logs, and databases.

Certifications/Licenses

Experience with GitHub Copilot (will be used for various tasks)
Experience with GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps Pipelines, Jenkins, or other CI/CD tools
Experience with Octopus Deploy (not expected, but a differentiator)

Competencies

Strong problem solving skills
Willingness to dive into legacy codebases
Ability to document findings and processes clearly for future team members
Comfort working in Windows based development environments
