Job Description

Our Transportation and Utilities department is looking for a seasonal Heavy Equipment Operator for our Construction crew, to perform a variety of jobs throughout the County. The successful candidate will primarily operate a packer and have the capability to operate various pieces of heavy equipment such as rock truck, dozer, gravel truck, loader, bobcat, and grader. The position may require general labour duties as needed. Lots of weekend work and/or longer hours may be required for operations purposes.

The Transportation & Utilities service area is responsible for providing municipal services which include, but is not limited to, construction, operation, maintenance and repair of bridges, streets/roads, ditches/culverts, water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer systems, and active and closed solid waste facilities.

Qualifications

Class 5 Driver's License and clean abstract
Experience towing a trailer
Willingness and ability to work long hours including weekends when required
Ability to operate heavy equipment (bobcat, packer, backhoe, etc.)
Ability to interact with members of the public and coworkers effectively and courteously
Physical ability to perform labour duties
Ability to use hand/power tools
Ability to do basic maintenance on equipment would be an asset
Experience with Microsoft 365 and an ability to use computers

Additional Information

This position generally works 10 to 12-hour days Monday to Friday and every other weekend, with the ability to be flexible as needed. The position will run from May 4 through October 30, 2026.

Hourly Pay: $36.48 to $42.92
