Data Governance (i.e., Data Stewardship) roles have formal accountability as First Line of Defence roles to ensure processes and controls are in place to manage data effectively within their Line of Business through data governance functions in alignment to the Bank's data policies, standards, and strategy, therefore being accountable for Data Risk and Control Management within the Business Segment or Corporate Function.
Data Stewards are responsible for some or all the following activities:
• Identify, measure, and monitor current and emerging data governance and management-related risks within the business
• Ensure the Business Segment or Corporate Function adheres to the minimum requirements as defined by the Enterprise Data and Information Management Policy and associated standards
• Define and execute processes to provide oversight of the Data Inventory and 1A processes for the Business Segment or Corporate Function, including:
o retention standards adherence (e.g., retention schedules, Information Holds),
o disposition standards adherence, and
o adequate retention and disposition capabilities to support the above processes
• Escalate data risks and Data Quality issues as necessary
• Oversee appropriate testing and monitoring of data controls.
• Monitor and report Data Quality issues and Data Quality issue remediation within the Business Segments and Corporate Functions, as well as data quality issue remediation planning
• Partner with relevant other 1B Governance & Control (G&C) functions to support adherence to other data related policies and regulations
• Advise, guide, and support the business through data related processes
• Ensure relevant data risk program updates and developments are communicated across the Business Segment or Corporate Function.
Key Accountabilities
Steward data in accordance with the bank Enterprise Data Policy, Standards
and Strategy
• Adhere to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to activities
for our business area
• Ensure respective programs/policies/practices are well managed, meets
business needs, complies with internal and external requirements, and
aligns with business priorities
• Consistently exercise discretion in managing correspondence,
information and all matters of confidentiality; escalate issues where
appropriate
• Ensure business operations follow applicable internal and external
requirements (e.g. financial controls, segregation of duties, transaction
approvals and physical control of assets)
• Participate in cross-functional / enterprise / initiatives as a subject matter
expert helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations
• Conduct internal and external research projects; support the
development/ delivery of presentations / communications to management
or broader audience
• Conduct meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level using
results to draw conclusions, make recommendations, assess the
effectiveness of programs / policies / practices
• Monitor service, productivity and assess efficiency levels within own
function and implement continuous process / performance improvements
where opportunities exist
• Lead / facilitate and/or implement actions / remediation plans to address
performance / risk /governance issues
• Actively manage relationships within and across various business lines,
corporate and/or control functions and ensure alignment with enterprise
and/or regulatory requirements
• Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory
requirements and assess potential impacts
• Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by
effective processes in alignment with risk appetite
