You are a senior technology leader responsible for guiding and scaling multiple software development teams, elevating engineering quality, and driving meaningful AI‑enabled productivity improvements across the engineering organization. This leader combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking, organizational clarity, and a passion for empowering teams to deliver high‑quality software with speed, safety, and innovation.
This role reports directly to the CTO and is accountable for delivery, talent development, architectural direction, operational excellence, and embedding AI efficiencies into engineering workflows, tooling, and product capabilities.
What you’ll do:
1. Leadership & People Development (40%)
Lead multiple software development teams—including managers, senior engineers, and cross functional contributors—to deliver against roadmap commitments and organizational priorities.
Create a culture of empowerment, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
Coach engineering managers and technical leaders; support their growth in decision‑making, architecture, and people management.
Support professional development plans and career paths aligned to the Engineering Development Pathways framework.
Manage globally distributed teams in a remote first environment.
2. AI Driven Engineering Efficiency & Innovation (New Core Mandate)
Identify opportunities across the SDLC where AI can reduce effort, accelerate delivery, or improve quality (e.g., code generation, test automation, refactoring, knowledge management, observability automation).
Partner with Product, Architecture, and Operations to define and implement AI enabled tooling, workflows, and engineering accelerators.
Lead experiments and proof of concepts using internal or vendor AI platforms to validate ROI, effectiveness, and safety.
Work with Agile experts to establish metrics and dashboards that track AI‑driven efficiency gains (e.g., cycle time, defect escape rate, deployment frequency).
Work closely with the CTO and transformation teams on AI modernization and technical debt reduction initiatives, especially where AI can multiply capacity.
3. Technical Strategy & Architecture Leadership (20%)
Partner with VP, Engineering Operations who owns Architecture & Infrastructure to drive modernization efforts and ensure systems evolve consistently with future needs.
Provide senior‑level input on system architecture, design patterns, platform modernization, and long‑term scalability.
Ensure engineering teams adopt and maintain industry best practices for coding, testing, CI/CD, DevOps, and secure development.
4. Portfolio & Delivery Management (30%)
Partner with peers in Product, Design, Data, and Support to ensure proper prioritization, alignment and smooth cross team collaboration.
Own execution excellence across multiple teams, ensuring predictable, high‑quality delivery.
Implement repeatable processes that balance agility and discipline while supporting concurrent development streams.
Champion operational excellence—reliability, incident response, observability, documentation, supportability.
5. Cross Functional Influence & Collaboration (10%)
Influence both the internal engineering community and broader company engineering culture.
Communicate clearly at all levels, including executives, with an ability to translate complex technology matters into business outcomes.
Contribute to planning cycles, quarterly business reviews, and board level reporting where engineering progress, capacity, and AI gains are relevant.
What you’ll need:
Must Have
10+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years leading engineering teams or managers.
Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple development teams or a portfolio of engineering work.
Strong technical background in modern software development, architecture, DevOps, cloud environments.
Proven ability to build scalable, empowered, high‑performing teams.
Strong collaborator with Product, Architecture, QA, Security, and Operations partners.
Nice to Have
Experience with largescale modernization initiatives and technical debt reduction using AI accelerators.
Familiarity with observability platforms, automation frameworks, or developer productivity
