Job Title: Customs Co-ordinator (12 month FTC)

We are seeking an organised, detail-oriented Customs Co-ordinator to join our fast-paced freight forwarding team on a 12 month fixed-term contract. This role is central to ensuring shipments comply with all customs regulations, moving efficiently across international borders.
The ideal candidate will have experience in customs procedures, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive under pressure. You'll work closely with operations, customers, and HMRC to ensure smooth customs clearances for imports and exports.

Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Complete and submit accurate import/export customs declarations in a timely manner
Ensure compliance with HMRC and other regulatory bodies for all shipment types
Manage customs processes including IPR/OPR, SIEL/OIEL licensing, AEO standards, and transit procedures
Liaise with internal departments mainly but on occasions with customers directly to obtain necessary documentation and resolve queries
Track and monitor shipments through the customs process, resolving any issues or delays
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in compliance with legal and audit requirements
Use in-house systems and software platforms ASM Sequoia to process customs entries
Stay updated on customs regulations and industry changes
Support internal teams with customs-related guidance and documentation reviews
Escalate non-compliance or procedural issues to the Customs Manager when necessary
Assist with audits, reporting, and KPI tracking for the customs function
What does the right candidate look like?
Proven experience in a customs clearance or freight forwarding role is essential
Strong knowledge of UK customs procedures, tariff classifications, valuation, and import/export controls
Familiarity with customs systems such as ASM Sequoia, CHIEF, CDS, or similar platforms
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
High attention to detail and excellent data accuracy
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
Team player with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Knowledge of carnet entries, excise movements, and bonded warehousing
Completing post entry amendments
