Job Description
**Job Title:** Utility Person II ARZ **Role Summary:** Execute construction, installation, and maintenance of parks, playgrounds, irrigation, and related facilities. Operate heavy equipment, perform routine inspections, and ensure safety and quality standards are met. **Expectations:** - Deliver projects on schedule and within budget. - Maintain safe work environment and comply with OHS and Highway Traffic Act. - Work independently and collaboratively as directed by Supervisor/Leadhand. - Handle shift work, weekends, and emergency assignments as required. **Key Responsibilities:** - Perform carpentry, painting, landscaping, fencing, playground installation, irrigation, and building repairs. - Conduct routine maintenance of parks, cemeteries, and new development projects (playground components, spray pads, stage sets, bench, signage, interlocking stone, waterline repairs). - Assess and report facility breakdowns, vandalism, or deterioration. - Operate tractors, front‑end loaders, skid steers, backhoes, trucks, trailers, and attachments safely. - Complete daily circle checks, minor repairs, lubrication, sharpening, cleaning, and schedule major repairs. - Perform heavy equipment tasks: grave digging, trenching, snow removal, grading, trail repair, sanding, and waste removal. - Read and interpret blueprints, maps, and hydraulic schematics. - Apply mathematical calculations for material acquisition and layout. - Troubleshoot and repair equipment and hand tools. - Read, write, and comprehend work orders, manuals, reports, and log entries. **Required Skills:** - Carpentry, painting, landscaping, and irrigation knowledge. - Proficiency with heavy equipment operation and attachments. - Mechanical aptitude and basic maintenance skills. - Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act. - Blueprint/map reading, hydraulic comprehension. - Strong written and verbal communication. - Time management, flexibility, teamwork, and customer‑service orientation. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Minimum Grade 12 education. - Valid, unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License Class ARZ (standard or automatic). - No more than 6 points on driving record. - Certifications (assets): Confined Space Entry, Playground Practitioner, Basic Welding, Crane Operation (0‑8 t), Working at Heights, Bucket Truck (Rescue & Evacuation). ---
